LA
FATTORIA - THE FARM
La
Fattoria "Il Leccio", , sulle dolci colline di Fiesole, 7 Km.a
nord di Firenze, trae il suo nome dall’imponente albero che sovrasta
il piazzale antistante la Villa omonima del XVI secolo: questo albero,
notifcato, è anche descritto nell’epistolario di Michelangelo.
Fino dai primi anni del 1900 la Villa 
è
stata abitata dalla famiglia Passigli, da tre generazioni promotrice di
manifestazioni culturali con particolare interesse per la musica. La Villa
ha visto ospiti intellettuali come Benedetto Croce, Bernard Berenson,
Krishnamurti, e i più rinomati rappresentanti del concertismo del
secolo, che si fermavano a Firenze in occasione delle loro tournèe
europee: negli anni 30 il famoso trio Cortot, Thibaud, Casals, tenne un
concerto al Leccio, come anche Adolf Bush e Rudolf Serkin ; essa ha anche
ospitato Arturo Toscanini, che ascoltò un concerto in suo onore
della banda del paese sul piazzale della Villa. Negli anni seguenti la
Villa ha continuato a ricevere i più importanti musicisti del tempo
quali David Oistrach, Arthur Rubinstein, Andrès Segovia, Mtislav
Rostropovich, che hanno apprezzato l’eccellente qualità dell’olio
prodotto nella Fattoria.
The
Farm "Il Leccio", on the charming hills of Fiesole, 5 miles
north of Florence, was named after the big ilex tree in the garden surrounding
the omonimous 16th century Villa. This tree, protected by the Italian
State, is also described by Michelangelo in his letters. Since the beginning
of this century, the Villa has belonged to the Passigli family, for three
generations a promoter of cultural events, with special interest in music.
Guests of The Villa have included intellectuals like Benedetto Croce,
Bernard Berenson, Krishnamurti, as well as the foremost rapresentatives
of the Century’s musicians who visited Florence during their concert
tours of Europe: in the 1930s the famous trio Cortot, Thibaud, Casals,
played a concert in Leccio, as well as Adolf Bush and Rudolf Serkin. The
local band dedicated a concert, held in the garden of the Villa, to Arturo
Toscanini, who at that time was visiting the estate. In the following
years guests at the Villa included the greatest musicians of the time
such as David Oistrach, Arthur Rubinstein, Andrès Segovia, Mtislav
Rostropovich,who appreciated the excellent quality of the olive oil produced
on the estate.
